State Bolsters Hope
for Foster Youth

Number of children in state
care lowest since 1993

Through the leadership of the Lingle-Aiona Administration, two remarkable trends have emerged in Hawai`i's child welfare system. As a result of innovative strategies employed by the State Department of Human Services: the number of children in foster care has dropped dramatically during the past five years, while the safety of Hawai`i's children has improved nearly three-fold.

Two of Governor Lingle's Cabinet members involved with the State's $2.3 billion Airports Modernization Plan were invited by the Harvard University Graduate School of Design to be instructors at the school's executive education program.

Governor Lingle paid tribute to the men and women of the United States Coast Guard at the annual Coast Guard District 14 Ball and thanked members for protecting the public, environment, and United States' economic and security interests.

As part of the Administration's ongoing commitment to increase awareness of mental health issues in the state of Hawai`i, Governor Lingle joined mental health consumers and their supporters in the 2nd Annual National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Walk.
