The January 2008 file includes utility and nonutility generation and fuel consumption and stocks data from Schedule 3, 4, and 5 of the new Form EIA-923. It is formatted in the same manner as the EIA-906_920 database.
Form EIA-906 and EIA-920 Databases
The EIA-906 and EIA-920, and predecessor forms, provide monthly and annual data on generation and fuel consumption at the power plant and prime mover level. Data for utility plants is available from 1970, and for non-utility plants from 1999. Beginning with January 2004 data collection a new form, the EIA-920, has been used to collect data from the combined heat and power plant (cogeneration) segment of the non-utility sector.
The power plant data has historically been published as database (.DBF) files, with separate files for utility and non-utility plants. For 2002 data and subsequent years, EIA is publishing the data in an Excel spreadsheet file that includes data for all plants and makes other changes to the presentation of the data.
Note that beginning with January 2002, the data for combined heat and power plants (i.e., the plants that provide data on the EIA-920 form) will only be posted in the combined Excel file.
The links will allow you to download the current Excel files, and will take you to the locations from which you can download the DBF-format utility and non-utility files for 2001 and earlier. The "Database Notes from EIA" link will take you to information on changes to the data and other points of interest to users.
Combined (Utility, Non-Utility, and Combined Heat & Power Plant)
Database in Excel Format
EIA is now using an Excel file for the posting of EIA-906 and EIA-920 data. This single Excel file includes the data for utilities and non-utilities.
