SCCI Inmate Work Crews
Work Crews are dispatched daily from the institution and work for many local agencies, including:  Oregon Department of Forestry, Port of Bandon, Coquille Watershed, Oregon State Parks, and others.  Work is also done in the community providing set-up for special events, brush clean-up at schools, clean-up at cemeteries, and other community projects.  These work crews are comprised of groups of 10 inmates and one supervisor.  Prior to assignment to an outside work crew, inmates are screened for potential risks.  Factors considered in screening include:  institutional conduct, type of offense, documentation of community concern, medical restrictions, warrants or detainers, classification, and county of residence.

In addition to inmates working off site, other inmates work on the institution site in the physical plant, kitchen and dining hall, warehouse, receiving and discharge, laundry, landscaping, and as facility orderlies.

Throughout the year, inmates working with the Oregon Department of Forestry are trained in wildland firefighting.  During the fire season, approximately 50 SCCI inmates are available for use in fighting wildland fires and providing fire camp support throughout the state.
