Thanks much for everybody's feedback. There may have been a little confusion here about grayscale v. color images. I think that we're good-to-go with what we need. ImageJ's Calibrate command works with 8-bit color images of type "8-bit" and, starting with v1.21j, it also works with images of type "8-bit Color" (mainly Gifs). -wayne
