TITLE: Novel PET Camera Designs
APPLICATION OF TECHNOLOGY: Medical Imaging
ABSTRACT:
LBNL is developing conceptual designs for
novel PET cameras. These
designs target several important needs in diagnostic medical imaging.
For example,
we have designs for two disease-specific PET cameras: one optimized
for imaging the
breast and another optimized for imaging the prostate. We have a
design for a very
high sensitivity camera optimized for imaging small animals (mouse
or rat), useful for
studying animal models of disease and intervention. Finally, we
are designing a
high-performance PET camera that
incorporates time-of-flight information, which
would significantly improve human oncological imaging. All of these
concepts require
development of state-of-the-art instrumentation that is being performed
at LBNL, as
well as image reconstruction algorithms that are capable of accurately
treating the
unusual geometries and incorporating the additional information
provided by these
cameras. Berkeley Lab is seeking a collaboration partner(s) to complete
this research project.
