Summary

When a Disability Examiner receives a childhood disability application which is difficult to determine, the doctors and specialists within the pediatric medical unit (PMU) may be consulted for recommended consultative exams, the PMU may conduct the consultative exams, and they may provide a case assessment that will review the child’s functional capacity after considering the impact of individual impairments as well as the impact of the combined impairments.

SSA awarded the development, implementation and evaluation contract to AUCD in January 16, 2006. SSA is currently testing the PMU initiative in one site.
