Nomination Guidelines and System

This year, nominations and letters of support for the Enrico Fermi Award can be submitted online for the first time.  The online system will allow those interested to establish a user account and nominate and/or write letters of support on behalf of candidates prior to the award deadline.

Nomination Materials

A complete nomination is made by submitting the following documents:

  • a letter of justification
  • nominee's curriculum vitae
  • nominee's bibliography of significant publications (NOTE: Please omit secondary publications and meetings. Do not include complete articles by the nominee.)
  • at least three and not more than six letters of support from individuals who are familiar with the work.

Our online submission system requires that all nomination materials, including letters of support, be submitted in PDF format.

Nomination Deadline

Nomination materials and support letters for the 2008 Fermi Award are due by April 1, 2008.

Online Submission Guide

To submit a nomination online, click the log-in button located on the top of the page. If you have not previously submitted a nomination, click the 'Create New Account' link and provide your log-in and contact information. You will then be directed to the nomination submission summary page where you can add a new nominee. Please note that when adding a nominee, you will not be able to update the nominee's contact information once you have submitted this information, so please review it for completeness and accuracy before submitting. Once you have added your nominee and returned to the summary screen, you will need to select your nominee from the drop-down list and click on the button to 'Upload Files for Selected Nominee.'

On the file upload screen, you can browse and upload as many PDF files as you wish in the four document types needed for your nomination: letter of justification, curriculum vitae, bibliography, and letters of support. When you have navigated to the documents you need to upload, simply click the 'Upload Selected Files' button. You will be able to see the results of your upload in the upload summary area.

You may continue to upload additional documents from this screen. Please note that only the last uploaded version of the letter of justification, curriculum vitae, and bibliography will be considered the final version for your nomination. There is a maximum of six letters of support per nominee.

To view the complete list of files you have succesfully uploaded for each nominee, you will need to return to the Nomination Submission Summary page and review the nomination submission history. You will not be able to open or delete files that you have submitted, only review the filenames, date uploaded, and the type of nomination file.

When you have finished uploading your documents, click the log out button on the left navigation pane to exit the online submission system.

Returning users
You may return to the online submission system at any time (prior to the award deadline) and upload additional documents. Simply click the log-in button above and enter the user name and password you created on your initial visit, and you will be directed to the Nomination Submission Summary page.

How to Delete or Replace a File
You cannot delete a file, but you can upload a new file to supersede it.

If you need to delete a document, please e-mail fermi@orise.orau.gov with the following information: your user name, the nominee's name, and the file name that you need deleted.
