Corrections Technologies

Equipment and technology can be used in institutional corrections settings to safeguard those who put their lives on the line to protect the public from dangerous criminals. Among other things, technologies can detect contraband, extract covert information, monitor behavior, and alert staff to personnel that are in trouble.

Technology is also useful in community corrections settings (such as probation, parole, and halfway houses) that offer viable and less expensive alternatives to incarceration for offenders at various stages of the criminal justice process. These alternatives can only work if offenders can be effectively monitored. Technology can serve as a means to achieve these goals.
