Who We Are
Information Technology Operations (ITO) - is responsible for establishing telecommunications standards and leading the development and acquisition of effective and reliable voice, data, and video services at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The office oversees and manages VA’s telecommunications infrastructure and the office automation, day-to-day technical operations, and customer desktop support for VA’s Central Office (VACO). Through integrating technology and implementing innovative management techniques, ITO supports VA’s goals to provide quality care and benefits to U.S. veterans

What We Do
IT Operations is comprised of the following four services.
IT Support Service (ITSS) – ITSS includes a Customer Support Division that manages VACO’s local area network by administering and maintaining a program of IT evaluation, consultation, and technical assistance throughout eight VACO sites in the Washington metropolitan area. Customers seeking assistance are provided with timely IT support in the areas of external management, software implementation, and problem solving |
Telecommunications Operations Management Service
(TOMS) – TOMS provides a full range of technical support to customers for engineering, testing, review and installation of telephone systems. Major initiatives include the ongoing transition to the next Internet Protocol, IPv6, and maintenance contracts for call centers and voice applications. |
Telecommunications Customer Support Service (TCSS) – TCSS provides guidance to the Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary, service directors, and team leaders on telecommunications policy, planning and financial management, customer relations matters, and administrative functions. |
Network and Infrastructure Management Service (NIMS) - NIMS manages VA's wide area network, including the engineering and oversight of vendor installation. Major initiatives include the Telecommunications Modernization Project (TMP), designed to provide the most reliable telecommunications infrastructure, as well as the Telecommunications Operations Support System (TOSS), to manage the hardware and software of the network inventory. |
