Des Moines Memorial Drive ceremony Dec. 6

The King County Road Services Division will host a completion ceremony for the Des Moines Memorial Drive renovation on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at North Highline Fire Station, 1606 South 128th St., Burien. There will be brief presentations and an opportunity to walk the new sidewalks along the renovated roadway.

Photo: Des Moines Memorial DriveThe project originated from the recommendations of the Boulevard Park Community Advisory Group and the Des Moines Memorial Drive Committee. The project involved repaving and realigning the road between South 99th Street and South 128th Street, and constructing curb, gutter, and sidewalk on both sides of the roadway. Memorial markers are set into the sidewalk to continue the roadway’s role as a "Living Road of Remembrance." That role was originally established in 1921 to honor and memorialize men and women from Washington State who gave their lives during World War I.

King County’s portion of the project along Des Moines Memorial Drive incorporates more than 200 memorial markers.
