Ten-week detour near Elliott Bridge
North-south traffic crossing Cedar River will have lengthy re-route

Starting Thursday, June 23, traffic attempting to cross the Cedar River east of Renton will have a lengthy detour while the King County Road Services Division constructs approaches to the new Elliott Bridge.

Construction is underway on a replacement bridge and on new north approach roadways that connect to the intersection of Jones Road and 154th Place Southeast. In order to complete the new approaches, 154th Place Southeast will be closed from the top of the hill at Southeast 142nd Place to State Route 169 (Maple Valley Highway).  Jones Road will also be closed at the intersection with 154th Place Southeast.

During the closure, motorists can detour via: 156th Avenue Southeast; Southeast 128th Street; North Third Street; Sunset Boulevard; and SR 169. The complete detour is approximately eight miles long. The detour is expected to be in effect through the end of August.

The existing Elliott Bridge will be open for local access only to allow nearby residents to reach their homes.

The new bridge will be located approximately 1,000 feet further upstream on the Cedar River, creating a direct connection with 154th Place Southeast and State Route 169. The new Elliott Bridge is scheduled to open Sept. 1.

The replacement bridge will provide wider travel lanes and shoulders for safer access by vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The new structure will also provide increased sight distances on the bridge and its approaches. For more information, visit the project website.
