ALERT SPOTLIGHT
Minor flooding prompts road closures
The King County Road Services Division is advising residents that minor lowland flooding along the Snoqualmie and Tolt rivers is beginning to impact roads in the Snoqualmie Valley. Currently, several roads have been closed in the Snoqualmie Valley. Over the next couple of days, additional storm systems moving through the area may cause more road closures and travel headaches.
Flood alerts have been posted for both the Snoqualmie and Tolt rivers triggering activation of the King County Flood Warning Center. The alerts mean residents can expect minor lowland flooding throughout the valley this weekend.
King County Road Services Division crews will continue to monitor conditions throughout the weekend and close roads, as necessary. Motorists are advised never to drive around barricades or road closure signs into standing water – that’s how most lives are lost during floods. Motorists who spot problems on roads maintained by King County are also encouraged to report them by calling 206-296-8100 or 1-800-KC ROADS.
The National Weather Service is calling for more heavy rain and potential flooding problems through Monday. So, residents should closely monitor the latest weather forecasts, King County Road Alerts and regional alerts issued by the Regional Public Information Network. Residents can also monitor near real-time flood data for rivers in King County online.
