Metro Transit seeking public feedback on proposed service revisions in south King County

Metro Transit is seeking feedback from the public on proposals to improve service on Route 101 and make permanent the service reductions implemented in February 2000 after passage of Initiative 695. If approved, the proposed revisions would take effect Sept. 29, 2001.

Metro is proposing to expand service on Route 101 to operate later in the evening until 10 p.m. and earlier on Saturday; the route also would provide new hourly service on Sunday.

After voters approved I-695 in November 1999, Metro reduced or eliminated service in February 2000 on the least productive routes systemwide for financial and operator availability reasons. In south King County, Metro discontinued low-ridership trips on routes 105, 110, 114, 118, 119, 124, 139, 148, 149, 153, 154, 155, 164, 166, 170, 173, 181, 183, 185, 186, 188, 912 and 915. Metro also discontinued all service on low-ridership routes 108, 117 and 189. Metro is proposing to make permanent those service reductions.

Metro mailed a brochure and questionnaire about the proposals to people on its transit mailing list in early March.

The public can also comment by filling out a questionnaire online at http://transit.metrokc.gov/, sending an e-mail message to southcomments@metrokc.gov, sending a fax to (206) 263-3489, calling (206) 553-3060 (voice) or (206) 684-1682 (TTY), or writing to King County Department of Transportation, Community Relations, KSC-TR-0824, 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle, WA 98104-3856. Comments and questionnaires are due Wednesday, March 21, 2001.

Service changes for September 2001 that require approval of the King County Council will be forwarded to the council by mid-April. There will be opportunities for further public comment on the service change proposals during the council's deliberations.
