Ombudsman
Our Mission
To serve as an impartial and confidential resource, assisting our clients with health and human services-related complaints and issues.
What we do
Created by the 78th Texas Legislature, the Health and Human Services Commission's Office of the Ombudsman assists the public when the agency's normal complaint process cannot or does not satisfactorily resolve the issue.
The Office of the Ombudsman's services include:
- Conducts independent reviews of complaints concerning agency policies or practices
- Ensures policies and practices are consistent with the goals of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission
- Ensures individuals are treated fairly, respectfully and with dignity
- Makes referrals to other agencies as appropriate
- Performs informal dispute resolution reviews for certain long-term care facilities
Who we are
The Office of the Ombudsman is comprised of a team of professionals committed to a high level of customer service. We take in, refer and respond to calls and correspondence from the public, working closely with health and human services agencies' leadership, management and program staff.
