Oregon’s Child and Family Services Review

What is a Federal Child and Family Services Review (CFSR)?

During 2007, Oregon is one of 15 states to undergo the second round of the federal Child and Family Services Reviews (CFSR).

The CFSR process focuses on improving safety, permanency and well-being of children in the state’s child welfare system and is the primary mechanism for evaluating the state’s performance related to federal requirements under Titles IV-E and IV-B of the Social Security Act.

The review has three components:

1. A statewide assessment, which will be completed in the summer of 2007;
   
   
2. An on-site review of case files in September; and
   
   
3. A Program Improvement Plan (PIP) to address any areas found to need improvement. If a state is not able to successfully complete its Program Improvement Plan, then federal penalties may be imposed.
