TSO Recognized With 'Eagle Eye' Award

TSO Richard Pearce, a five-year veteran of TSA, was operating the X-ray one recent Saturday at Austin-Bergstrom International when a female passenger offered her carry-on property for screening.
Pearce noticed what appeared to be a weapon and alerted Supervisory TSO Johnny Steffes. "Our training showed as Richard reacted to the threat, remained cool and collected, and called me to confirm what he saw," said Steffes. The prohibited item was a .38-caliber handgun.
"We constantly remind our workforce of the need to be vigilant and of the tremendous responsibility they take on everyday. I am proud of Richard's accomplishment," said Federal Security Director Mike Scott.
