Diabetes Research in Children Network (DirecNet)

What is DirecNet?

Diabetes Research in Children Network (DirecNet) is a network of clinical centers dedicated to researching the potential use of glucose monitoring technology and its impact on the management of type 1 diabetes in children.

DirecNet Objectives

The primary aim of DirecNet is to determine if either of the two commercially available continuous glucose sensors (CGMS and GW2B) is sufficiently accurate to use as a tool to establish norms for the glycemic profile of non-diabetic children or to use as a management device for type 1 diabetes. This includes assessing the continuous glucose sensors' optimal utilization and accuracy and developing a quality of life questionnaire related to use of continuous glucose monitors. Other objectives include evaluating and developing distinct, age-appropriate treatment approaches to type 1 diabetes in children by providing computer based tools for the child and parents to use for incorporating continuous glucose monitors into diabetes self-management.

DirecNet Centers

The Diabetes Research in Children Network (DirecNet) is co-funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and is made up of five clinical centers and one data coordinating center.
