Project Highlight: Training & Education
Cardiovascular Public Health Training and Technical Support (CDC)
Client: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (CDC)
ORISE conducts training, develops computer-based training products, and prepares resource materials that help state agency staff implement heart disease and stroke prevention programs.
ORISE has four main tasks with the CDC Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention :
- The Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Practitioners Institute is an annual multi-day training event for state Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program coordinators and chronic disease staff designed to prepare them to effectively carry out an effective heart disease and stroke prevention program in their state.
- The Roadmap: A Systematic Approach to Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention is a Web-based product for providing access to training, technical assistance, and other resources needed by state Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program coordinators and other chronic disease staff who are implementing a heart disease and stroke prevention program.
- The Community Health Workers Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Source Book is a resource manual to assist community health workers in counseling cardio patients. It provides easy-to-understand information and self-management strategies. Future plans include a train-the-trainer program and translation of the Source Book into Spanish.
- CDCynergy: Cardiovascular Health Edition, a CD-Rom-based tool for health communication is being updated to reflect the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention’s focus on stroke prevention. This update will be a Web-based version of the program.
