This legislation will dramatically increase the financial commitment to help combat global HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria by authorizing up to $48 billion in funds.
"This bill will help us combat the diseases that complicate HIV/AIDS. It commits $4 billion to fight tuberculosis, which is the leading killer of Africans living with HIV. The bill also pledges an additional $5 billion to our Malaria Initiative. Through this Initiative, we've provided malaria treatment and prevention services to more than 25 million people. We've dramatically reduced malaria in many parts of Africa. The additional funds in this bill will help us save even more lives," said President Bush.

A Malaria Operational Plan (MOP) presents a detailed one-year implementation plan for PMI in each designated country. It briefly reviews the current status of malaria control, identifies challenges and unmet needs, and provides a description of planned activities under PMI. Revised funding tables have been added to the fiscal year (FY) 2008 MOPs, and the FY 2009 planning schedule has been announced.
