Atlas of Northern
Gulf of Mexico Gas and Oil Reservoirs
Volume 1. Miocene and Older Reservoirs
Volume 2. Pliocene and Pleistocene Reservoirs

The Minerals Management Service, Gulf of Mexico OCS Region, announces publication of both volumes of the Atlas of Northern Gulf of Mexico Gas and Oil Reservoirs. Volume 1, Miocene and Older Reservoirs, and Volume 2, Plio-Pleistocene Reservoirs, classify more than 10,000 productive sands from over 1,100 fields into a Gulf-wide geologic framework.

Full GIS functionality is provided on a CD-ROM accompanying each Atlas, including digital files of geological and engineering reservoir data, play boundaries, field outlines, lease protraction area grids, and shoreline position, as well as tabular data files of sandstone-body reservoirs, pools, fields, and plays.

Analysis places each sand into one of 91 producing hydrocarbon plays. For each sand, 31 descriptive engineering criteria are provided (including reservoir depth, reserves, hydrocarbon types, and sand type). The Atlas is published by the University of Texas at Austin, Bureau of Economic Geology.

• Large format — 17-by-22 - inch folio.

• The Atlas is a joint effort of the MMS; University of Texas Bureau of Economic Geology; Gas Research Institute; Department of Energy; Louisiana State University Center for Coastal, Energy, and Environmental Resources, Basin Research Institute; and the Geological Survey of Alabama. Each volume will also include a CD-ROM containing all play and field data at the sand level.

• An abridged version of the offshore Atlas with data at the pool level (averaged sand values in a field for a given play) is available on the MMS Internet website, @www.mms.gov
