Welcome to the Oregon Department of Forestry's North Cascade District

The North Cascade District manages the 47,871-acre Santiam State Forest, protects approximately 650,000 acres of public and private forestlands from fire, and provides assistance to private forestland owners.

The District is comprised of two unit offices - the Molalla Unit and the Santiam Unit in Lyons. We invite you to visit our website, explore the Santiam State Forest, and learn more and enjoy all of Oregon's many forests.

The North Cascade District entered Fire Season on July 1, 2008 and Regulated Use Restrictions were instituted on July 10, 2008.

Burning Information
In the North Cascade District, open burning is the leading cause of wildfires. The Oregon Department of Forestry wants your burning operations to be as safe and successful as possible, and for you to clearly understand your responsibilities. More information on burning is available on this website and by contacting our offices.
Woodcutting Permits
The North Cascade District occassionally offers woodcutting permits from the Santiam State Forest. Contact us at 503-859-4338 to find out if any permits are currently available.
