Community-Based Distribution Programs

USAID sponsors community-based distribution programs that support door-to-door provision of family planning information and services. These efforts improve access for those who desire these services, but may have difficulty getting to a service provider or clinic. Early successes in Bangladesh, Tunisia, Mexico, Colombia, Egypt, and Uganda have provided models for countries throughout the developing world. USAID also works to link its family planning programs with other community-based efforts to improve maternal and child health, prevent HIV/AIDS, and enhance women's status.
