Overview: |
Concluding the introductory year of Arabic, you learn to read Arabic with greater ease, increase your knowledge of Arabic culture and engage in more sophisticated conversations using increasingly complex vocabulary and grammar. Grammar focuses on the various particles, passive voice, verb positions, the negative imperative and uninflected nouns. |

Objective
To improve the student's communication skills in speaking, reading, and writing Modern Standard Arabic.
Learning Outcome
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will read Arabic script with greater ease; increase their knowledge of Arabic culture; and engage in more sophisticated conversations using increasingly complex vocabulary and grammar.
Instruction
Major topics covered in the course include
- partitive nouns;
- defective and hollow verbs;
- verb position in the Arabic sentence;
- describing activities in the past, present and future;
- new prepositions;
- expressing contrast;
- expressing reason;
- negating verbs;
- uninflected nouns;
- the passive;
- new verbs;
- pattern and verb forms and ordinal numbers.
Vocabulary topics will include
- household terms;
- religious and celebratory terminology;
- and daily activities.
Methods of instruction include lectures, discussions, classroom exercises, homework assignments, role-plays, video and audio material, mid-term examination and final examination.
