ORISE Support for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
As part of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) ever increasing interagency support to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) is looked upon to provide DHS with the tools to strategically protect our country from all types of natural or man-made threats and disasters.
ORISE provides this support by leveraging institutional knowledge and expertise in strategic planning, policy development and implementation, intelligence analysis, and all-encompassing exercise program support. Examples of ORISE's past and present support include:
- Direct operational and technical assistance to the DHS Contingency Planning Support Division on:
- National Response Plan rollout
- TOPOFF exercise series and other national level exercises, as well as tabletop exercises, games, and conferences
- Operational assistance for the Principle Federal Official (PFO) Cell Headquarters Reach-back and Support desk for emergency operations. For example hurricanes Katrina, Ophelia, Rita, and Wilma
- Operational assistance to DHS Integrated Incident Management Group and Principle Field Official Cell for readiness and National Security Special Events
- Assistance in developing and/or reviewing the following national policy and plans for the Department of Homeland Security and the Contingency Planning and Support Division:
