Course has been rescheduled to start 09/23/2008, there will be a make-up session within the term.
Build on your abilities by participating in conversations in Chinese. Learn approximately 150 additional vocabulary items, apply your existing vocabulary in reading, writing and conversation and read simple texts using Chinese characters. Further your knowledge of how Chinese characters are constructed, and use modal particles, prepositions and structures for comparison. Introduce popular Chinese songs, poems and readings in class using downloads from Chinese websites. ACE College Credit Recommendation Service reviewed. |

Learning Outcome
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to demonstrate more sophisticated vocabulary in conversations and comprehend simple speeches and written passages in Chinese.
Instruction
Major topics covered in the course include
- comparative patterns and the aspect marker particle "le;"
- confirming something has happened;
- commenting on actions;
- changing money at the bank;
- describing a place; numbers 100-10,000;
- filling out forms;
- borrowing/returning books;
- comparisons;
- buying clothing;
- at the post office;
- describing things;
- uncertainty;
- reminding;
- taking the bus.
Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, classroom exercises, presentations, tests, and final examination.
