Caregiver resources
The goal of caregiving is to help someone maintain an independent lifestyle as long as possible. What's the best way to achieve this? You can begin by being well-prepared and well-informed. DHS has several ways to help you.
Oregon Services and programs
Network of Care
Oregon's first-ever comprehensive Web-based directory of local services for seniors and people with disabilities. The site will help all Oregonians find answers to questions about adult care facilities, Alzheimer's, end-of-life care, health care, care giving, nutrition, home repair, recreation, transportation and much more. The Web site is: www.oregon.networkofcare.org.
Oregon Lifespan Respite Care Program
Respite care services give families and other caregivers temporary relief from providing care for frail adults. Companionship, light assistance, recreational activities and security are provided in your home, out of the home in a group setting, or overnight in a residential setting. Respite care fosters a healthier quality of life for both the caregiver and care receiver.
The Oregon Lifespan Respite Care Program, part of DHS, helps counties develop and implement community-based lifespan respite care networks. The Lifespan networks help families and caregivers locate respite care services in their communities. DHS also has a list of other resources to help caregivers.
Adult Day Services/Care
Adult day care can provide respite care as well as ongoing services. Learn more about this program.
