FEMA Announces Special Broadcast on the National Response Plan February 16, 2005

Release Date: February 1, 2005

WASHINGTON D.C. - Michael D. Brown, Under Secretary Emergency Preparedness and Response of the Department of Homeland Security, announced today a second broadcast of an introduction program supporting the National Response Plan. The National Response Plan (NRP) was developed by the Department of Homeland Security to replace hazard-specific federal plans with a common framework for federal departments and agencies to provide emergency and disaster assistance to state, Tribal and local governments. The NRP was developed in close consultation with federal, state, Tribal, local governments, first responder organizations, private sector preparedness and relief groups. The next broadcast will air over the Preparedness Network (PREPnet) on February 16, 2005.

"This program will greatly enhance and support an audience understanding of the National Response Plan announced on January 6th by Secretary Ridge," said Brown. "In the future, we will be bringing to all first responders additional video and independent study opportunities to achieve this critical initiative of President Bush."

The re-broadcast of THE NATIONAL RESPONSE PLAN: One Team, One Goal - A Safer More Secure America, will feature discussions with some of the individuals who were directly involved in crafting the elements of the NRP. In addition, there will be segments from a Web-based independent study course developed to help all first responders become familiar with the provisions of the plan.

"With the new capabilities of our EENET studios and the need for providing this training to all first responders, the USFA staff looks to delivering a number of Incident Command, Unified Command and National Incident Management courses in the near future," added U.S. Fire Administrator R. David Paulison.
