The first National Forum of the National Centers of Excellence in Women's Health was jointly sponsored by the Office on Women's Health (OWH) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Association of Academic Health Centers (AHC), a national, non-profit organization that represents more than 100 academic health centers nationwide.

The Forum, held on November 1-2, 1999, brought together nearly 300 representatives from the Centers of Excellence (CoEs), other academic health centers, government, and for profit and non-profit organizations.

The National Forum reflected on the progress made in women's health in the past century and shared ideas on how to implement innovative strategies for a new vision of women's health based on an integrated, holistic approach.
