Smoke from Saskatchewan fires (Canada) transported over James Bay and the Great Lakes

Smoke from fires in the prairie provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta, Canada, has been lofted into the air and was drawn southward over James Bay (top center) and the Great Lakes (center), and on to the upper midwestern United States. Especially hazy are the skies over Wisconsin and Michigan, on the west and east shores of Lake Michigan, respectively. A lone fire (red dot) was detected in Wisconsin. This image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite on June 29, 2002.
