This true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from the Terra satellite on November 13, 2002, shows the south-central United States. Autumn’s red-brown hue is punctuating the still-green parts of the landscape, and a few active fires were detected by MODIS and are marked in red.
