Sustainable Procurement is a process that takes into consideration environmental and social factors in addition to the traditional price and quality aspects in the procurement of goods, works and services. Sustainable Procurement is directly linked to the Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development, which has been defined by the World Commission of Environment and Development as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". The course explores the different definitions and components of Sustainable Procurement, including Environmental or Green Procurement as well as Socially Responsible Procurement.
Upon completion participants will have a thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities inherent to the introduction of Sustainable Procurement practices as well as the tools and resources available for its adoption.
Participants will be awarded a Joint Certificate of Attendance from the Graduate School, USDA and INPRI. |
