SUBJECT: Fiscal Year (FY) 2003 and FY 2004 Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI)
Transit System Security Grant Program

In response to issuance of the Transportation Security Directive (TSD), #SD RAILPAX-04-01, dated May 20, 2004, from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Security Administration (TSA), grantees are advised of the additional authorized expenditure under the FY 2003 and FY 2004 UASI Transit System Security Grant Program:

  • The cost of removing from platform areas of passenger terminals and stations trash receptacles and other non-essential receptacles or containers and the replacement of them with ones that are compliant with the TSD.

FY 2003 grantees that have no remaining funds that have not already been obligated, but would like to use grant funds for this newly authorized activity, should contact their ODP Preparedness Officer regarding the correct procedures to reallocate unexpended funds. FY 2004 grantees will need to contact their State Administrative Agency point of contact to discuss reallocation of funds.

If you have any questions about this or other policy-related issues, please contact your preparedness officer or the ODP Helpline at 1-800-368-6498.
