Flood levels rise on Cedar, Green rivers

With water rising to dangerous levels, the King County Flood Warning Center has issued a Phase IV flood alert for both the Cedar and Green Rivers in South King County.

Flows remain high on all King County rivers this afternoon, although the Snoqualmie River upstream of Carnation and the Tolt, in addition to Issaquah Creek, continued to see improving conditions.

King County flood patrol crews have been monitoring conditions from the field since since Sunday. Some crews have been patrolling the Tolt and Snoqualmie rivers while others are on the lookout for problems along the Cedar and Green rivers.

King County is advising residents living or traveling in flood-prone areas to continue to monitor weather conditions and be on the look out for road closures. Motorists are reminded never to drive through standing water or around barricades; this is how most lives are lost during flooding.

Real-time river level information is available online by visiting.

A Phase IV flood on the Cedar River means some residential areas may experience dangerously high flows and flooded property. Other potential impacts could include flooding at the Renton Airport and possible water over State Route169 (Maple Valley Highway).

Flows have also reached Phase IV levels on the Green River. A Phase IV flood alert on the Green means flooding of varied depths will occur in the valley upstream of Auburn and lower Mill Creek basin. SE Green Valley Rd and West Valley Rd may also potentially be impacted.

If you spot a problem on a road maintained by King County, report it by calling 206-296-6515 or 1-800 KC ROADS if you live outside the greater Seattle calling area.

The King County Emergency Coordination Center is currently activated to monitor and coordinate the response to the potential flooding situation on King County rivers.

Residents in affected areas can get updated information on flooding on the King County Web site, or can visit RPIN, the area's regional Web site. A recorded flood-information hotline is also updated each hour for citizens wanting information in flood areas. The number is 206-296-8200 or 1-800-945-9263. Citizens who need help interpreting flood information should call 206-296-4535 or 1-800-768-7932.
