Military’s New Payment System Will Affect Child Support Payments

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) will move to a new payment system in October of 2008. The new payment system, the Defense Information Management Human Resources System (DIMHRS) will mean a change in child support payments for the Army and Air Force from one payment per month to two payments per month. The conversion to DIMHRS will include voluntary allotments for child support and will replace MyPay, the current payment system. The Army will be converted in October 2008, affecting approximately 100,000 child support cases nationwide. In February 2009 the Air Force will be converted. This conversion does not impact the other armed services branches at this time. Overall, it is anticipated that 1,825 Oregon Child Support Program cases will experience changes in the timing of payments based on the implementation of this new military system.

For further information about DIMHRS go to www.dimhrs.mil.

For information on how these changes may have affected a specific Oregon child support case, select the Case Information link on the left side of this page to check your current accounting records. Or you can contact your local child support office to speak with a child support caseworker to get more information.

Governor Proclaims August as Child Support Awareness Month in Oregon

August was first declared National Child Support Awareness Month by President Bill Clinton in 1995. As he noted at the time, “Those who bring children into the world must bear the responsibility of supporting them. We must rededicate ourselves to the task of putting these youngest and most vulnerable of our citizens first.” In recognition, Governor Ted Kulongoski has issued a proclamation declaring August as Child Support Awareness Month in Oregon.
