Biography

Dr. Pitt received her Ph.D. from the Molecular Biology Institute at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1988. Following her tenure at UCLA, she conducted post-doctoral research at the Institute of Molecular Biology at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon under a fellowship sponsored by the Jane Coffin Memorial Fund for Cancer Research. Following Dr. Pitt’s work at the U. of Oregon she was awarded a Science, Engineering and Diplomacy Fellowship that was co-sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Working within USAID, she managed a global health initiative with the Office of Education. Dr. Pitt continued her work in the field of public health in a position she held as the Director of Education with the Association of Public Health Laboratories where she managed a national training effort for public health professionals.

Prior to joining the staff at the NCI in June of 2006, Dr. Pitt served as the Director of Repository Services for BioReliance, Invitrogen Bioservices. Dr. Pitt has been active with the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) where she served on the governing Council for three years, two of which she served as the Secretary/Treasurer. Dr. Pitt currently serves as the Chair of the ISBER Education and Training Committee and as the Editor in Chief for the organization’s published Best Practices for Repositories.
