Syracuse Lead TSO Leroy Bowen was recently recognized by the state of New York for his military service and commitment to his community during a ceremony recognizing local veterans for their years of service.

Bowen, recently retired from the Army and credited with developing a "courtesy room" at the Syracuse airport for military service members to relax between flights, received a military service award from New York State Assemblyman Will Barclay at the ceremony.

Opened on July 29, the courtesy room – fully stocked with refreshments, comfortable chairs and books, is staffed by local volunteers. About 400 members of the military have used the facility so far.

To make the area a reality, Bowen collaborated with airport and government representatives and local military officials.

"Lead Bowen is not only a model officer and a military veteran, but continues to give to his community," said Security Manager Donna Brazee.
