National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN)
NHSN training consists of live webcast training sessions using lectures, slides, and demonstrations using the NHSN data reporting and analysis tool.

Training sessions have been archived and are available for those who need to fulfill the training requirements of the NHSN (see below), or for those who need a refresher on a particular topic.
NHSN Training Requirements:
The NHSN requires that each of its users, including the facility administrator, is thoroughly trained before enrolling in or using the system. The training requirements differ depending on the role of the NHSN user. Please select one of the following roles to review the training requirements:
Facility Administrator
User (other than Facility or Group Administrator)
Group Administrator
For the Facility Administrator, the training requirements are:
- View the “Overview of NHSN” training session
- Read the “NHSN Facility Administrator Enrollment Guide”
- View the “NHSN Enrollment & Facility Start-up” training session and read the corresponding slidesets
- Read the “NHSN Manual – Patient Safety Protocol”
- View all training sessions and read slidesets relating to the NHSN methodology of data collection and data entry for the type of facility enrolling:
- Outpatient Dialysis Facilities:
- View the “Analysis: Introduction” and “Analysis: Advanced” training sessions prior to using the Analysis functionality of the NHSN
- If joining a group, view the “Conferring Rights to a Group” training session.

- View all training sessions and read slidesets relating to the NHSN methodology of data collection for the type of group nominated:
- Outpatient Dialysis Groups:
- View the “Groups” training session and read the corresponding slidesets
- View the “Conferring Rights to a Group” training session and read the corresponding slidesets.
- View the “Analysis: Introduction” and “Analysis: Advanced” training sessions and read the corresponding slidesets prior to using the Analysis functionality of the NHSN

NOTE: If you have participated in a face-to-face NHSN training session endorsed by the CDC (i.e., from State groups or CDC day training), we recommend that you also review our training sessions, especially for those protocols and topics which may not have been covered during CDC-endorsed trainings. When registering as a user of NHSN, you may enter the date of the CDC-endorsed training you attended as the training completion date.
*If a user is responsible for more than one task in his/her facility, training requirements applicable to each task must be fulfilled.
**If the Group Administrator will be responsible for training facilities within a group, it is required that the Group Administrator complete training for Data Entry, Customization, Import, and Facility Enrollment and Start-up.
