Secretary of State Colin L. Powell traveled to Africa, May 22-28, visiting Mali, South Africa, Kenya and Uganda.

In meetings with leaders of these countries, Secretary Powell underscored the Administration’s commitment to Africa, discuss the Administration’s HIV/AIDS policy, and reviewed bilateral and regional issues.

Throughout his trip, the Secretary observed efforts to fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic. He met with civil society representatives as well as government officials.

From Africa the Secretary traveled to Budapest, Hungary, to attend the Ministerial Meetings of the North Atlantic Council, May 29 and 30.
