Additional Readiness Support to the U.S. Department of Energy
The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) supports the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) in the following ways:
- Nuclear Incident Team
Members of ORISE respond to nuclear or radiological emergencies as part of the Nuclear Incident Team. This team manages DOE’s response to the incident by deploying assets and coordinating with other Federal agencies involved in the response. - NA-42 Event Tracking System (NETS)
For NNSA's Office of Emergency Response (NA-42), this ORISE-developed system tracks scheduled exercises and operations to give managers comprehensive visibility on the activities of their teams. - Asset Readiness Management System (ARMS)
This system provides readiness information on DOE's personnel and equipment. Through a system of strict metrics, ARMS automatically calculates readiness scores for each asset based on the depth of personnel available, their training, their inventory of equipment, and the condition of their equipment.
Additional emergency preparedness activities include:
- DOE's Oak Ridge Office (ORO) Joint Information Center (JIC)
ORISE provides 24/7 facilities management support to ORO's JIC during an emergency. - Emergency Management Issues Special Interest Group (EMI SIG)
ORISE manages the DOE EMI SIG, which is composed of more than 900 DOE and DOE contractor emergency management personnel. The group shares information, lessons learned, and resources across the DOE complex. Five EMI SIG Subcommittees are the hub for activities. The DOE Office of Emergency Management and Policy sponsors the SIG.
