Spokesperson Training
Issues related to radiation, biological or chemical hazards, occupational exposures, and other emergency-related topics tend to evoke high emotions from the public. They are naturally concerned and have little trust for the information they are receiving about an event or topic. Having well-trained spokespersons for the organizations involved can mean a calmer, better- informed public.
Several government agencies realized the need to improve their spokespersons skills related these low-trust, high-concern issues. In response, the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education developed and delivered a training course that has since been delivered to thousands of spokespersons across the country.
The course covers:
- Trust and credibility
- Verbal and nonverbal communication
- Message development
- Working with the media
- News conference management
- Answering questions
