Issue: Religious organisations have played a role in the provision of HIV/AIDS education but this has been a contentious role. Religious organisations should encourage to incooperate home based care, counselling and support within the principles of their faith. Description: This paper will focus on a model that links home based care, religious organisations and the health care sector to ensure a detailed caring response.1.A national workshop was held with all sectors of religious organisations to advocate for commitment and to work on a model that would address the issue of religious organisations becoming more involved with home based care and family support.2.Provincial workshops with 3 provinces to develop appropriate structures to link religious groups and home base services towards care, support within the family structure and community. 3.Evaluation component - changing role of relious organisation, stigma reduction, awareness, prevention, care and support programmes. Conclusion: Provincial workshops implemented in 3 provinces in South Africa. Coordinated structures developed to ensure sustainability and to prevent duplication in providing care and support to the infected and affected with HIV/AIDS. The religious organisations have a "watch dog" role to play in this epidemic.
