Clinician Training for Mass Casualty Radiological and Nuclear Terrorism Events

Client: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Radiation Studies Branch

In the event of a radiological or nuclear incident, hospital Emergency Department clinicians need to be able to:

To educate these clinicians, ORISE worked with the CDC to produce a computer-based training program that emphasizes planning and implementing a medical response to mass casualties in a hospital first-receiver setting.

ORISE worked with a video production team to create engaging video scenarios that put the clinician in a situation depicting hypothetical radiological terrorism events.

The clinician interacts with the scenarios by answering questions interjected at key decision points. The instructional feedback provides links to additional teaching points to highlight the key subject areas.

After completing a self-test, clinicians can apply for continuing education credits.
