Technical Consultation

Technical consultations are one of the many ways AQMD helps businesses meet today’s air quality standards.  AQMD’s Small Business Assistance Office offers free technical consultation service either on-site, by phone, or at AQMD headquarters to help business owners:
  • Determine which permit and rule requirements apply to business operation
  • Provide business operators with cursory compliance determination; identify areas of non-compliance
  • Assist business operators in developing strategies to achieve compliance with AQMD rules and regulations
  • Provide assistance and liaison with other agency staff on permit processing, application filing, regulatory compliance, and fee issues
  • Find resources for financial assistance

All businesses with 100 or fewer employees are eligible for this free on-site or over-the- phone technical consultation service.

How to request a free on-site technical consultation

To request a complimentary on-site consultation, call (800) CUT-SMOG or send an email to smallbizassistance@aqmd.gov. To receive free over-the-counter assistance, you can visit our headquarters:

Diamond Bar - AQMD Headquarters
Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
21865 Copley Drive, Diamond Bar, CA 91765
(800) 288-7664, FAX (909) 396-3335

What to expect when help arrives

Your Small Business Representative will review AQMD rules and regulations which apply to your facility. During a walk-through of your facility, you and your AQMD representative will identify problem areas, evaluate pollution reduction opportunities, and work together to find permanent, cost-effective solutions. If something needs to be corrected, no tickets or fines will be issued, but you must agree in advance to correct the violations as quickly as possible. We generally allow two weeks to comply, and help you with your request for a variance from our Hearing Board if it will take more time.

Follow-up

Be sure to call your AQMD representative if you need additional help. He or she may also check with you from time to time to see if you need further compliance assistance. Ultimately, you are responsible for correcting any non-compliant conditions
