EOS Validation ProgramThe goal of the EOS Validation Program is the comprehensive assessment of all EOS science data products. The EOS Instrument Science Teams are responsible for algorithm validation and specification of the uncertainties in the derived science data products. Validation Responsibilities, Guidelines, and Policies, and the review process for validation activities are the responsibility of the EOS Validation Scientist within the EOS Project Science Office. Pre-launch activities include development and verification of algorithms and characterization of uncertainties. Post-launch activities include refinement of algorithms and uncertainty estimates based on comparisons with correlative measurements and multi-platform intercomparisons. From its beginning the Validation Program has supported Airborne Sensors and Facilities, Surface Test Sites and Networks, and Field Experiments as they play an essential role in pre-launch and post-launch validation studies. When necessry the Validation Program provides support to the Instrument Science Teams through External Investigations and establishment of essential basic data sets such as the HITRAN Spectroscopic Database.
