McFarland Sworn In As VA Assistant Secretary

WASHINGTOND.C. — Robert N. McFarland was sworn in today as assistant secretary for information and technology (IT) in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

“Robert McFarland brings extensive experience in leading large organizations and has a proven record of success,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi.  “The important work of honoring our veterans and safeguarding their records are in good hands.”

As both the assistant secretary and chief information officer, McFarland will be the principle advisor to Principi on information and technology management.  The office provides advice and assistance to ensure that IT systems are acquired and information resources are managed properly.

Before coming to VA, McFarland served as vice president of government relations for Dell Computer Corporation, where he earlier managed the military, federal, state and local government business as vice president and general manager of the government sector.

McFarland, an Army Vietnam veteran, holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from LeTourneau University in LongviewTexas.
