The LCLS will be the world's first x-ray free electron laser when it becomes operational in 2009.
LUSI
LUSI will build instrumentation for LCLS science thrust areas.
SSRL
SSRL is a National User Facility which provides synchrotron radiation for research in chemistry, biology, physics & materials science.
PULSE
PULSE will focus on ultrafast structural and electronic dynamics in atomic physics, chemistry, biology, & physics.
SIMES
SIMES addresses key challenges in the areas of condensed matter physics and materials science. The emphasis of this core group is in the general area of scattering, spectroscopy and imaging using the two major national user facilities – SSRL & LCLS.

This Summer School will disseminate information about scientific opportunities in ultrafast science with particular emphasis on the new ultrafast x-ray science opportunities that will occur at Free Electron Laser (FEL) facilities. Lectures will be presented by expert scientists in the various aforementioned fields. The attendees will be expected to participate in the discussions since we plan to offer these lectures in an interactive style mode to make it effective and interesting to the audience.
