Soldiers from Task Force Phoenix in Afghanistan to start Champ Car Race on Sunday
Soldiers from the 41st Brigade Combat Team serving as part of Task Force Phoenix V will officially start the 2006 Champ Car Race on Sunday, June 18, 2006.
Working with the 354th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, the CENTCOM Public Affairs Officer and Staff Sgt. Jonathan Crane of the CENTCOM Media Engagement Team, soldiers from throughout Oregon will be able to give the command to start the big race on Sunday. The race is scheduled to start at approximately 12:30 p.m. after these soldiers give the command via telecast "Drivers, Start Your Engines.
The broadcast team from Global Events Group will also be screening personal greetings from these soldiers throughout the weekend at the Portland International Raceway. Many of the families have been provided tickets at no cost by Global Events to enable them to be on site for this event.
Soldiers participating in this event are from the following cities: Portland - 7, Seattle, WA - 1, Medford, 1, Aloha - 1, Vancouver, WA - 2, Creswell - 1, Gresham - 1, Cottage Grove - 1, Federal Way, WA - 1, Springfield - 1, Pendleton - 1, Salem - 1, Sherwood - 1, Hillsboro - 1, Hermiston - 1, Independence - 1, Beaverton - 1, Grants Pass - 1, Myrtle Point - 1, Lake Oswego - 1, Canby - 1, Tualatin - 1, Corvallis - 1, Bend - 1, Carlton - 1, Russelville, Arkansas - 1, Port Ledlow, WA - 1, Rotonda West, Florida - 1.
CBS will be broadcasting this event locally and in 180 countries throughout the world.
