Oregon National Guard activates new Special Troops Battalion

Several Oregon Army National Guard units will reorganize this weekend as part of the U.S. Army Transformation initiative.

A new battalion known as the 41st Special Troops Battalion, within the 41st Brigade Combat Team, will be activated during a ceremony on Feb. 4 at 10:00 a.m. in building 6101 at Camp Withycombe, 10101 SE Clackamas Rd., Clackamas, Ore. 97015.

Under the transformation initiative, Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 41st Brigade Combat Team, located in Tigard, Ore., will be split into two new companies. HHC will be divided into the 41st Brigade Headquarters Company, located in Tigard, Ore., and Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 41st Special Troops Battalion located at Camp Withycombe.

During the ceremony on Feb. 4, the new 41st STB will be activated and its subordinate units will be re-flagged.

The 162nd Engineer Company, located at Camp Withycombe, will be re-flagged as A Company (ENG) of the 41st STB.

The 241st Military Intelligence Company, located in Tigard, Ore., will be re-flagged as B Company (MI) of the 41st STB.

Also, the 41st STB will be standing up an entirely new signal unit, known as C Company (SIG) of the 41st STB located at Camp Withycombe. This new signal company will be the communications company for the 41st Brigade Combat Team specializing in network and satellite communications along with numerous specialty repairer positions.

Transformation is a Department of Defense program that has the military services reorganizing to meet future challenges. In general the U.S. Army is reorganizing forces to deploy at the brigade level instead of at the division level. These changes allow the U.S. Army to deploy more easily and with greater flexibility.
