G Troop, 82 Cavalry Mobilization Ceremony set for June 29, 2004
 
Redmond, Ore. - A formal mobilization ceremony for the soldiers of G Troop, 82nd Cavalry will be held at 11 a.m. on June 29, 2004 at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds in the Middle Sisters Room. Family, friends and media are encouraged to attend.
 
Approximately 150 soldiers from G Troop in Redmond and the Detachment in Woodburn, Ore, will gather for this ceremony. In attendance will be Congressman Greg Walden, Craig Campbell, St. Policy Advisor for Governor Kulongoski, Frank Van Cleave, representing U.S. Representative Peter DeFazio, Brig. Gen. Raymond Byrne Jr, Acting Adjutant General, Oregon National Guard, Brig. Gen. Dennis Merrill, Commander 82nd Brigade (Troop Command), and Major Eric Bush, Commander 1st Squadron, 82nd Cavalry.
 
These soldiers will depart for Ft. Bliss, Texas on July 3rd for several months of training both at Ft. Hood and Ft. Polk prior to their departure to Iraq as part of a future rotation in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. They will be joined by the 3rd Battalion, 116th Cavalry and the 116th Cavalry Brigade out of Idaho.
 
It is anticipated they will be 365 days “Boots on Ground” in Iraq.
