Oregon National Guard increases alert and security levels

Salem, Ore.-As a response to the reported terrorist attacks on America's east coast, the Oregon National Guard has increased alert and security levels. The Guard has taken these levels of precaution as advised by state and national officials. Under these conditions, the specific security details cannot be released.

In addition, the Oregon National Guard is reviewing all public uses of the facilities. The Guard's two air bases, Portland Air Base and Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls, have also attained a higher level of security. All active-duty Airforce and Air National Guard bases have been directed to this level.

There has been no intelligence to suggest that Oregon is a target. The Oregon National Guard is not aware of any threats to any of its facilities. However, units have been alerted and are prepared to deal with any problems that might arise.

Guard officials are in direct communication with the Oregon State Police, the governor's office, and other federal and state agencies as needed.
